How to Be the Person Everyone Likes to Be Around

You know the person that lights up the room. That magic person that makes you feel great when you are around them.

There is a recipe for becoming that person.
With just five ingredients.

1. Smile
Surely this is obvious? Smiling is great, we all love to be around smiley people - but how many do you know? Are most of your friends and family smiley people?

Smiling makes your brain feel happy. A smile releases serotonin and endorphins, lowering your heart rate and releases happy hormones into your blood stream. And smiling is infectious, we constantly mirror the body language of the people we are around, so when someone smiles at us, we smile back - releasing endorphins in both of our bodies so we both feel great.

Smiling is infectious,
you catch it like the flu,
When someone smiled at me today,
I started smiling too.

I passed around the corner
and someone saw my grin.
When he smiled I realized
I'd passed it on to him.

I thought about that smile,
then I realized its worth.
A single smile, just like mine
could travel round the earth.

So, if you feel a smile begin,
don't leave it undetected.
Let's start an epidemic quick,
and get the world infected!

We used to smile more, children smile approximately 400 times a day. The average adult smiles 20 times a day. Remember the joy of childhood? Bring it back by creating a habit to smile more.

2. Find your passion and enthusiasm for everything in life
There is always a bright side, something to be grateful for in every day. Be happy. Find the joy in every moment, happiness is already there, waiting to be discovered. It has become the social norm to be ‘busy’, when we ask someone how things are going ‘busy’ has become the expected response. There is nothing wrong with having a full life, but make sure you are not too busy to notice the joy in everyday moments. Happiness is not a future state, it is happening now, all you need to do is look for it.
“Being happy doesn’t mean everything is perfect. It means you’ve decided to look beyond the imperfections.” ~Unknown

3. Be an Optimist
Life isn’t perfect. Sometimes bad things happen to good people, and when something bad happens, you have a choice. Of course in the moment you will feel unhappy and you will probably feel down for a while after it. After an appropriate period of sadness, make a choice to move on, find happiness again.

4. Genuinely Listen
Likable people take time to listen to others without distraction (mobile phones away!) and are curious to find out about other people. Being listened to makes people feel valued, important and connected. Listening forms powerful bonds between people,

5. Share your happiness with people around you
Positive people always have a sparkle in their eyes, and draw friends and family closer. They have an energy that people want to be around and they make the people around them feel great. The secret is that they are generous with praise and compliments. They make the people in their company feel good by taking the time to tell them what they love most about them. Who doesn’t want to hear what is great about them? When someone builds you up and leaves you feeling great after being with them, you will seek them out time after time.

Everyone wants to feel special. By telling the people around you what you love most about them, they’ll become aware of what they love most about you. They’ll want to spend more time with you - simple as that.
